The Brong Ahafo Regional Police has arrested a man who is suspected to
have posed as the Inspector General of Police (IGP) to extort money from
some people with the promise of getting them into the Ghana Police
Service.
District Police Commander for Nkoranza, ASP Andrews Aboagye, told Adom
News the suspect, Dominic Ameyaw, who hails from Baafi in the Nkoranza
North District, was arrested by the police Friday morning from his
hideout.
He said the suspect, 24, posed as various senior police officers
including the Inspector General of Police at several locations and
claimed to have been given a special assignment to recruit persons who
were interested in joining the Ghana Police Service. Each individual
applicant was lured to pay an amount of GHC 500.00.
ASP Andrews Aboagye said the suspect succeeded in obtaining the amounts and issued fake letters of appointment to the victims.
“We got information that some man was issuing fake documents to people
in the name of senior police officers and promising to get them into the
police service. He was arrested at his hideout when he was about to
issue these fake documents to people” he said.
He said the suspect after thorough investigation admitted to the act, adding that he has been remanded into police custody.
